Scared and Strong
By Loviel
I'm not strong, I'm scared
I'm afraid of repeating the patterns
That scarred me into submission,
That taught me these warnings.
What you may see as strength,
To be able to walk away,
I see as caution,
Protecting my vulnerability
To stop my own temptations of
What If’s and Maybe Not’s
I will not be stepped on
I will not believe myself to be ignorant
I will protect my heart
I will protect my sanity
So if you are only going to offer
Simply spoken promises,
Best believe I am wiser than that,
To believe things I cannot see
The change I cannot feel.
If you think me so small,
You may be right
But that was a different time
A different me
So though I am weak,
It has made me strong
Scared of possibilities that cut me
To test the worthiness of pursuers.
