To Be Here

It’s astonishing to me

To see how far I’ve come

When years ago

I thought the end was near.

The past still lingers 

As lines decorate my hips,

But there is a great sense of pride 

Of accomplishment 

Of overwhelming victory

That I am here

That I am accepting of love

That I actively look for beauty. 

How tragic it would have been 

Had I not got to see 

What lies beyond the broken.
